Microsoft Outlook For Android Now Available

Productivity On The Go!

A famous quote by Marshall McLuhan  says “We shape our tools and afterwards our tools shape us”. Microsoft has finally taken off the wraps off their shiny Outlook android which since January 2015 has been in “preview” mode. The development of the Outlook android app is definitely a big deal in an age of the “mobile office”. The question is, are you going to carry your work email on your mobile device?”

Microsoft Outlook, launched 2007 is Microsoft flagship email client which has largest market share globally. Outlook over the years has become associated as the most reliable desktop-based business email management client on the market. Fast-forward almost 10 years on, Outlook is now available for use on mobile devices. Granted that there are third party app developers who have already made available competitive mobile email clients widely available, Outlook still the software platform of choice in email management.

I have personally tried out alternative email client software, ranging from Thunderbird to Evolution and I must say, I found the user experience to be absolutely shocking. I personally think Outlook is still the best email management software on the market. The Outlook for Android app is free and runs on Android 4.0 and above. It’s available in all markets supported by the Google Play Store.

So if you want to access your work email on the go, I recommend you try out the new Outlook mobile app.

Microsoft Office Certifications

Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification is the premier credential chosen by individuals seeking to validate their skills and advance their careers.

With three certification levels, the MOS credential allows individuals to validate their skills and progress toward their career goals.

With the new MOS 2013 exams, testing candidates are presented with a project that they must complete. Rather than being a series of required tasks, individuals now must complete a project that delivers a better indicator of real world Office 2013 use. As such, individuals are measured on their performance at a deeper skill level.

At the Core and Expert level, individuals get certified in specific Microsoft Office applications. At the Master level, individuals must successfully complete 4 certification exams – 3 required and 1 elective.

Outlook settings and Excel conditional formatting

An Outlook setting

Jerry upgraded to Office 2010 and like most of us, he lost a few custom settings. By default, if you open a message and delete it, Outlook will return to the folder. However, Jerry prefers to go directly to the next message. This is a simple setting in Outlook 2010 and 2013:

  1. Click the File tab.
  2. Choose Options (under Help).
  3. Select Mail in the left pane.
  4. In the Other section, choose Open The Next Item from the After Moving Or Deleting An Open Item dropdown.
  5. Click OK.
